Husholmen

Apparently Husholmen Castle was short-lived. According to the current history study, Queen Margareeta got hold of Finnish castles at the end of the Nordic power struggle latest at 1399. She ordered several castles to be dismantled because she was afraid them to fall into the hands of opponents again. Husholmen has remained fairly untouched after and has a lot of value as an archaeological site. Husholmen has four guide boards that are based on observations and discoveries made in excavations, as well as other castle reconstructions made in the Nordic countries.

Husholmen is located on the lands of the Bosgård Manor.

Husholmen

Just 2.1 km from the cottages of Örnvik is the medieval fortress of Husholmen. In addition to medieval stone fortresses in Finland, there were several wooden castles one of which was located at Husholmen in the late 14th century. This is probably a castle called Wartholm, mentioned in medieval sources, located in Uusimaa. The castles were usually placed in a good defensive location, and Husholmen Castle was originally located on a small island that was later connected to the mainland after the sinking of sea levels.

Some small archaeological excavations have been done between 1934 and 1996. Research has found that there was a castle yard and a watchtower on the rocks, and a little bit below the forefront of the castle. It was protected by the woodwork built on the cliff and the underwater wood post around the island. About 600 wood post has been found.
